The Emru Townsend Award has been named in the memory of our dear colleague, Emru Townsend, who remains an inspiration to all of us, for his many efforts promoting the study and appreciation of animation. The award is specifically intended to offset some of the expenses associated with attending the annual conference via awards of up to $500 (USD).

These grants are competitive for our members. Applicants must be currently registered members of SAS and must not have been awarded a travel grant from SAS within the last 3 years. The monetary disbursement will occur at the conference. Any named recipient who does not attend will forfeit the award.

Applicants can apply for the award via email by submitting a Word document (not PDF) with the following information (in this order):

  1. Your name, email, affiliation/status (student/faculty), title of abstract and short-version paper abstract that you submitted for the SAS conference (priority will be given to presenters, though others may apply).
  2. Your particular need for monetary assistance (150 words or less, including budget).

The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 22, 2026 @ 11:59PM (GMT +4). The award recipients will be announced after April 13, after review by a selection committee. Applicants must send their request by email, adhering to the above guidelines (abstract/proposal, need, affiliation) in a Word document to Peter Chanthanakone at pe*****************@***ac.ae. Please include the headline: SAS AWARD 2026.
