SIG: Documentary

Convenors:

Cristina Formenti, University of Udine

Nea Ehrlich, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Description:

The SIG springs from the desire to encourage the development of a constructive dialogue on the various intersections of animation with documentary, shape the growth of this thriving subfield of animation, and identify ways for increasing awareness of its richness and history. The SIG encompasses not just the animated documentary, but also other forms (e.g. the animated mockumentary) and narrative devices (e.g. animated interjections in otherwise live-action documentaries or documentary aesthetics in fiction animation)  deriving from the encounter of animation and documentary, as well as additional relations between animation and non-fiction representations such as journalism, forensics, science, and so on.
