Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is steadily becoming a key moment for Artists Moving Image in the UK. Between Wednesday 20 – Sunday 24 September 2017 BFMAF will animate the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Accompanying an exhibitions programme, the Berwick New Cinema Competition features resolutely contemporary films that transgress restraints of genre, capital and expectation. A drive towards liveness and agency provides a critical framework for Berwick New Cinema selections.

The competition includes world premieres from Wojciech Bąkowski, Corin Sworn and 2016 Jarman Award winner Heather Phillipson, as well as artists’ films reaching the cinema for the first time after successful exhibitions at the Venice Biennale—Sung Hwan Kim, MoMA Ps1—Stanya Khan and MoCA Los Angeles. Films from Mary Helena Clark and Dani Leventhal arrive straight from the Whitney Biennial and brand new titles from filmmakers Mont Tesprateep and Sorayos Prapapan, have just had their world premieres in Locarno and Venice Film Festivals.
