Announcement to S.A.S. Members:
Emru Townsend Award, and the Professional Development Grant
Society for Animation Studies members may now apply for grant awards in the assistance of research and travel for those intending to present at this year’s annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia. To apply for either grant, all applications should specifically include:
- a short CV of the applicant
- a brief conference paper abstract or research proposal
- a short description of the importance of the grant to you, and your particular need for monetary assistance and the amount of money/currency that you are requesting.
The travel grant (Emru Townsend Award) is specifically intended to offset some of the travel expenses to and from the conference held this July on the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design. The professional development grant is a slightly smaller grant, not
more than US$200, to assist with an expense incurred by your research.
These grants are competitive for our members, as we do not yet have enough funds to supplement the costs as generously as we would like, or to as many as we would like. Applicants must be currently registered members of the S.A.S.
All travel grants will be paid by a check that will be given to the attendee/award recipient at the Atlanta conference.
The deadline to apply for either grant is Jan. 23, 2009. Applicants must send their request by email, adhering to the above guidelines (CV, abstract/proposal, short essay describing your request) to Tom Klein at tomklein@lmu.edu The award recipients will be announced in late February or March.
The travel grant has been named in the memory of our dear colleague, Emru Townsend, who remains an inspiration to all of us, for his many efforts promoting the study and appreciation of animation.
