Society for Animation Studies members may now apply for grant awards for those presenting at this year’s annual conference, held at Canterbury Christ Church University in England.  All applicants should send an email that includes:

-your short paper abstract that you submitted for the S.A.S. conference (priority will be given to presenters, though others may apply)

-your particular need for monetary assistance (200 words or less, including budget)

-your affiliation/status (student/faculty) with an academic institution or studio, if applicable

The Emru Townsend Award is specifically intended to offset some of expenses for the conference held this July in Canterbury. This year there will be four awards of 350 British Pounds each which will go to applicants who register for the conference, with two of these four awards reserved for currently enrolled students.

These grants are competitive for our members. Applicants must be currently registered members of the S.A.S. and must not have been awarded a travel grant from the S.A.S within the last 3 years.  The monetary disbursement will occur at the conference, in cash: 350 GBP. Any named recipient who does not attend will forfeit the award.

The deadline to apply is June 10, 2015. The award recipients will be announced by the end of June, after review by a selection committee. Applicants must send their request by email, adhering to the above guidelines (abstract/proposal, need, affiliation) to Tom Klein at tomklein@lmu.edu

The conference grant has been named in the memory of our dear colleague, Emru Townsend, who remains an inspiration to all of us, for his many efforts promoting the study and appreciation of animation
